By pairing individual bulbs with a C9 (E17) Christmas cord, Mike had the flexibility to craft a design that perfectly suits his townhome. Here’s everything you need to recreate this classic, cheerful look.

Adding Colors for Christmas

This year, as we planned the outdoor Christmas decorations for our townhome’s patio, we decided to mix in some red and green G50 bulbs with the warm white ones we purchased from Christmas Light Source a few years ago. The results were outstanding—exactly what we were looking for! — Mike

Installation Tips

Test and Prep on the Ground

Test bulbs first and install your clips before climbing a ladder for a faster, safer install.

Plan Power and Pattern

Make note of outlet locations so male/female ends align where you need them.

Customize Your Cords

Use Gilbert plugs to make jumpers between roof levels. Keep each run under ~250 feet of 18 AWG wire.

Repeat your color pattern in nearby wreaths and trees for a polished, cohesive display.
