Get this Look: Blue and White C9 LED Bulbs and Cords, A Vision in Blue
I love this house. An all-blue Christmas light display is a classic, traditional look that feels crisp and timeless — especially against warm brick, creamy trim, or darker landscaping.
And if you want to break up the blue just a little, adding pure white or warm white is a beautiful way to add dimension without changing the overall mood. Blue + white reads “winter,” “clean,” and “storybook” — and it photographs incredibly well.
Christmas Lights Are a Personal Choice (and that’s the fun of it)
One of my favorite things about Christmas decorating is that it’s not one-size-fits-all. Some of us love a very traditional look. Others want bold color. Some want “simple and elegant,” and some want a full Griswold moment.
My best advice: choose what you love. You’re the one who gets to come home to it every night.
- If you love classic: solid blue (or blue + white) is hard to beat.
- If you want a softer look: add warm white for a little glow and warmth.
- If you want a brighter “pop”: use pure white as a crisp accent with blue.
Materials List
This project uses classic C9 light cord and a mix of blue and white retrofit C9 LED bulbs. Thank you, Robert, for sharing photos of this beautiful display!
- C9 Christmas light cord (cut to fit your roofline)
- Blue C9 LED bulbs (retrofit)
- White C9 LED bulbs (retrofit — choose pure white or warm white)
- Christmas light clips (matched to shingles or gutters)
- Gilbert (vampire) plugs — male plugs for line starts, female plugs for line ends
- Wire snips for trimming cord to length
Tip: Order a few extra bulbs in each color so you can adjust spacing or pattern once everything is up.
Easy “Get the Look” Tips
- Keep your spacing consistent. A clean roofline looks “professional” when bulbs sit evenly and face forward.
- Decide your pattern ahead of time. All blue is striking — or alternate blue/white for a balanced rhythm.
- Use white to highlight features. Peaks, gables, or entry lines look great with white accents.
- Choose your white intentionally. Warm white feels cozy. Pure white feels crisp and icy.
Quick shortcut: If you’re unsure, start with all blue. You can always add white later as an accent line — and it’s an easy upgrade.
