The light string itself—meaning the flexible wiring and the sealed 5mm LED bulbs—is rated IP65. This is a high rating which means the string is dust-tight and protected against rain, snow, and splashes of water from any direction, making it very durable for outdoor use.
However, it is crucial to know that this IP65 rating does not apply to the plugs and end-to-end connectors.
These connection points are the most vulnerable part of any outdoor light string. To ensure a safe and long-lasting display, you must take measures to protect these plugs from direct exposure to the elements.
We strongly recommend:
Keeping connections elevated off the ground to avoid sitting in puddles or snowmelt.
Protecting connections from sprinklers or heavy, direct rain.
Covering all plug-in connections with waterproof tape or a specialized waterproof connector box.
So, while the light string is built to handle the weather, protecting the plugs is the most important step for a successful installation!
