Opening Fuse Door in a Christmas Light Plug

Opening Fuse Door in a Christmas Light Plug

How to Open the Tiny Fuse Door on a Christmas Light Plug
(Yes, we finally filmed it up close!)

After dozens of comments asking “Wait… how do you actually pop that little door open?”, Shellie grabbed the camera and a screwdriver.

30 seconds that will save you 10 minutes of frustration

Pro Tips from the Video

  • Use a small flat-head or stubby screwdriver — easier on your palm!
  • Slide the tip into the notch and gently pry toward the prongs
  • If it fights you, wiggle side-to-side — the plastic lip can get slightly offset
  • Spare fuses are hiding right inside (most plugs include two extras)

Still not opening?

The door might be heat-sealed from years of storage. A tiny drop of rubbing alcohol around the seam usually loosens it.

Lost your spare fuses?

Grab 3-amp 5×20mm glass fuses (the exact size used in 99% of mini-light plugs) at any auto-parts store, hardware store, or big-box retailer — usually under $3 for a pack.

Pro tip: keep a handful in your Christmas box every year — you’ll thank yourself in December!

You’ve got this!
One little door = one fully working string of lights.
