Christmas Lights Recycling Program

We are continuing our recycling program for 2012 - so if you have broken lights you'd like to have recycled we are still accepting contributions for the program. We'll keep this program active all year and save all recycling proceeds for the next Toys for Tots donation. And everyone can feel good knowing that their lights didn't end up and a landfill and were appropriately recycled in the US. In the past we've fielded some customer phone calls about Christmas light recycling and this year we thought, 'Why not?'. We are very proud our Recycle Christmas Lights for the Kids Campaign will be continuing for 2011.
The idea of a recycling program has always sounded like the right and responsible thing to do but the implementation of such a task was extremely difficult and daunting. Somehow, the thought of used Christmas lights being carted off to a landfill after bringing joy to so many passersby just didn't seem right to us, but very few recycling centers had the capabilities of recycling the glass, copper and plastic from Christmas light sets.
Luckily, we have found a recycling solution and it helps children in need at the same time!
And to encourage enthusiasm for the project, we thought it was a great way to give folks a 10% discount!
We've found a local recycling company who will take your lights and recycle the copper, glass and plastic. They pay a small amount per pound of lights - like the money you get for aluminum cans - which we thought we'd put that to good use for you. By sending us your lights, you can join a force for literacy!
All proceeds from the Christmas lights recycling program will be used to purchase Usborne books that will be donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Since Usborne Books offers a 50% match on donations, for every $100 in proceeds from Christmas lights recycling, $150 in fun, educational children's books will be purchased and donated to the Dallas/Fort Worth Marine Toys for Tots center.
How cool is that?
Here's how you can participate in our program to get your lights recycled, get a discount on an order of Christmas lights and benefit children at Christmas time:
1. Take your old, broken Christmas lights and box them up in as small a box that will accommodate the lights and send them to us in the cheapest and slowest way at:
Christmas Light Source Recycling Program 1923 6th Avenue Fort Worth, TX 76110
2. Please include your name, address and email address (mandatory if you want the discount code - we won't save it or sell it) and we'll email you a code that will be good for 10% off a single order of Christmas lights (one rebate coupon per household).
3. Then we'll take the lights, have them recycled and take the proceeds from the recycling and use them to buy books!
4. These books will then be donated to the DFW Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
So! We'll be able to take Christmas lights that have faithfully lived out their lives and turn them into really great books for Children - Merry Christmas!
